13. I want to host adult content, do you allow this?

Yes and no, we have photographers that have some adult content, but we do not allow explicit pornography type content on our shared servers. Only tasteful photography/art style imagery. 14. I want to use SSH, do you provide access?

Yes, we do restrict outgoing mail to 60 emails per hour. That’s pretty much one email per minute, or 1,440 emails per day. That should be plenty for the average shared hosting user.

Hi,
we worked on apache 1.3 with mod_fastcgi.. aftere update to 2.2.14 version (wit mod_fastcgi) we have problem.. we have a few servers with this problem..
Apache consumes suddenly all of memory and swapping (all allocated swap memory !), load is growing up and machines not responsible.. it’s very often.. we don’t know what to do with this.. We updated this stuff to 2.2 version because in 1.3 greaceful restarts wiht DA not working properly..
Servers have installed 4gigs of rama and we using DirectAdmin

Just wondering what peoples opinions are on Timer Frequencies on systems with different setups? I’ve never really looked into this much before.

Obviously on the desktop/multimedia and gameservers a 1000Hz Kernel is preferable. But is 1000Hz really needed on a webhosting machine, i.e. if you take a typical cPanel server as an example.

I might have been looking at Xen for too long but I thought the CentOS5 kernel was 250Hz by default. It looks like it’s 1000Hz now on the latest version.

What do you run and any particular reason why?

I am setting up WHMCS and will be using Google Checkout for payments and Google Checkout require SSL.

I have a hosting account with another company to host my WHMCS site and I was wondering if it’s possible to either, set up SSL on a shared hosting account (with cpanel) or can I set up SSL on my own server and use it with my shared hosting account with this other provider?

I have just bough the right to rent paralelles sitebuilder.

They state before making the buy that is needed to have a credit card after the first payment for the first month.

But they do not say that one must get the service for 6 months minimum.

So you pay for one month and the you discover that you must allow them to have the service 6 months.

They should state this clearly before.

Can someone tell me if this is normal ?.

About 10 days ago we noticed my clients domain name stopped working. It resolved to nowhere and nothing came up when trying to access it. The website has paid subscribers that rely on daily access to it.

Right away we ran some diagnostics on the server (not hosted by Aplus), and determined nothing was changed and all is functioning correctly. The site can be accessed directly by IP just fine.

After several emails to their support department and then waiting for 2 – 3 days we got an email back telling us that their regular support department could not help us. We need to email their NEW support department that handled accounts that were migrated to their new architecture. It is ridiculous that they can’t communicate internally, but we emailed this new department nonetheless (same email address, but using "cs" subdomain).

Again, no response after 2 days.

So I called them up on the phone. They asked typical questions about our nameservers and webhost. After proving to them it was not an issue on that end, they put me on hold for about an hour. The woman then came back and said she had found out the domain was put in redemption and that she didn’t know why. She told me not to worry and that it would be sorted out in about 30 minutes.

Fast forward days later, and the site has been down for 10 days. We’re losing money, losing long-term customers and nobody at Aplus cares.

By communicating over Twitter, I was contacted by "Caysha" a manager that seemed to have good intentions. I wrote to them in detail, explaining the exact issues and the research we have already done on the problem. And of course the fact that the domain was in redemption and this was most likely the cause of the domain no longer resolving.

After 3 days, we got 1 response from Caysha, asking canned questions about our nameservers. No response about the domain being in redemption.

To make matters worse, we cannot transfer the domain name. It seems that it’s being held hostage even though it’s unlocked. Probably due to it being in redemption status.

I just called their support again, and the woman said she emailed the "redemptions department" again and that it was the third time. I asked for contact info for this department and she told me there is none. She could not get any more info on the problem because it was in a different departments hands.

Basically, this company has many different departments. None of which can communicate with each other.

They put domains in redemption for no reason, and then do not fix the issue.

They do not care about their customers and completely ignore requests. They wast hours of your time, money and greatly hurt your business.

Our hands are tied. The support department can’t do anything, and the "redemption’s department" does not respond after 10 days.

We have no other option but to get our lawyer involved. Their negligence has created a loss of business for us, and there doesn’t seem to be any resolution in sight.

I recommend nobody to ever use this company for anything. When your business is on the line, 10 days without any helpful responses or a resolution can put it all down the drain.

Few weeks back, Softlayer had downtime for CloudLayer instances for two days.

I am wondering if anyone else is facing the trouble again ? I have just now noticed that the Cloud is down and we aren’t able to connect for past 15 minutes.

I hope they won’t start doing it as a monthly thing. :rolleyes:

I am trying to practice java, but need some help

I want to create a multi_dimensional array. The array has store the first name of a celebrity and the last name of a celebrity.

So what I need the program to do is ask the user to enter 4 names (first and last) and then store them into an array.

Then I need a prompt that asks the user to input the first name, and search the array for the name. When the name is found, it prints the first and the last name.

So an example:

Enter a first name:Oprah
Enter a last name:Winfrey
Enter a first name:Bill
Enter a last name:Gates
Enter a first name:Kobe
Enter a last name:Bryant
Enter a first name:Cheryl
Enter a last name:Cole

I just like to give my review and experience with clustered.net, after been with many top names for vps’s in UK and being dissatisified with either slow server speed and high io I came accross clustered.net, at first I jumped ship due to some issues with out given them the time of day etc.. maybe due to all the poor oversold servers Ive had recently and started being more picky, they were happy to except me back and let me continue with their service, I guess this impressed me somewhat.

Server performance: 9/10 (fastest server so far) running on Xen Centos 5.3 2GB

Support: 10/10 , Unmanaged service, but they answer all tickets and point you in the right direct, even take over and fix the issue if you cant, so a bonus

Uptime: well hard to gauge as only 30 days, and many reboots Ive done playing around like a kid in a sweets store, never found my server offline

Network: 10/10 ,Network speeds are fast, maybe since we are in the UK as well, my clients are very impressed when ftp’ing and browsing their sites

Overall, very impressed with the current service they are providing me, support is fast and responsive even though im unmanaged and they dont have to help, this gives me more re assurance that they are a company that cares and should be around for years to come.

I will post another review in the coming months as its only 1 month

Since I enabled mpm-itk on my cPanel server, the FrontPage extensions are not working. I wouldn’t have known this unless a client hadn’t pointed it out to me today.

It keeps giving a "503 Service Temporarily Unavailable" error message. Everything else is running fine at this point. Switching back to Prefork resolves this particular issue.

Here is an example:

Alright, I’ve got apache 2.2 installed on the server w/ eAccelerator.

eAccelerator is great, but falls short during heavy traffic/peak times.

My MPM worker being loaded is prefork.

Backing up the entire server would cover the MySQL databases, but it is really necessary to backup the entire server? I think not…

Just backing up the home directories and /var/lib/mysql (Mysql Databases) would be better. But does anyone know the commands needed to do that?

We’ve been having problems with the latest version of WHMCS giving out free accounts. Fortunately, an existing customer called and asked why a new sign up wasn’t charged.

If you have your packages set to ‘Pro Rata’ and have ‘Automatically setup the product as soon as the first payment is received’ your user will get a free account for the first pro-rate+month and no fraud checking.

This is known by WHMCS and they are calling it user error so far. You can find this in their forums and I am sure I am not the only one with a support ticket.

I have also confirmed this with ‘un-named host’ and was able to duplicate the problem on their system and get a free account. I have called the host and notified them of this vulnerability in their system. They are a colocation client of ours for several years, so we have a trust relationship. I would not recommend trying this with a random host.

I have also reverted to the standard install templates and themes to make sure this wasn’t self induced. I do not know the scope of the problem, if all new install or only upgraded, certain environmental variables and so on.

Since your balance is $0, you are never sent to Credt Card payment or go through any of your fraud prevention. As long as ‘Automatically setup the product as soon as the first payment is received’ you now have an instant free account. If the account requires review, you may or may not find an admin who has even noticed he isn’t getting paid.

If pro-rating is disabled the system seems to return back to normal, but once you have more than a few hundred accounts doing your billing daily becomes an issue of it’s own.

I hope this information helps protect some other hosts in here. If your in this situation please check your install. We are fortunate only a small handful of our low cost clients have been migrated to WHMCS which has minimized our losses.

Hello Guys,
I have an problem and don’t sure what to do,
In the last 2-3 days every day at ~05:00-05:30 AM my Virtuozzo Container is STOPPED ( i see this is Power Panel) and i have to start it manually when i wake up and this leads me to 4-5hours of downtime each day,

i have contacted the support of this VPS host and they say it isn’t their problem as the Plan is Unmanaged, even though i expected to get any information from them but they refused to help,

so my question is what should i do ? every day the container just go offline, i have enough resources and the container isn’t crashing it is just being turned off,
first i thought it was hacked but i have changed all passwords etc…

please advice me what to do next,
also do you think an complete Container Delete + Crate again would help ?

I just had two server crashed because the raid card is spoilt. Rare but it happened twice for me. I was wondering is it necessary to have hardware raid? Won’t software raid work better with more and more powerful CPU? With software raid at least you have some warning before it crashed. For the hardware raid I have zero warning…..

I have signed up for the Nano plan(80 mb ram with 128 mb burst) of RAM Host. My expectations were low but I was quite surprised with what I got so far.

I have to say, the biggest problem with such low ram is you can’t run "yum" to install new programs. However, a solution to this was their Kloxo Host-in-a-box VPS image.

After a few days of installing everything, I had a few of my scripts get into infinite loop which caused 100% cpu usage. I was sleeping when this happened but when I looked at my e-mail, I saw that I received a personal e-mail from staff saying that I have to lower cpu usage and after 2 hours my VPS was taken down. I was actually very happy the way they handled this problem.

The same thing happened again and they again shut my VPS down after 2-3 hours of 100% cpu usage.

I can’t blame them for my errors but I was overall happy with the way they solved this problem.

Their control panel is very dull and you generally have to raise ticket to get things solved. Their response times are very fast, so it does not create any problems.

Info:
-I get around 100 visitors and 300 pageviews everyday.
-I have a script that does some heavy work and updates database every 1 minute.

P.S.
If you are not familiar with linux and installing using RPMs, please don’t consider this plan.

i have intel xeon dual core linux dedicated server from eukhost.

i am runing forum and various web sites.

everything was running fine for last 6 months. i have not made any changes in script/server settings.

but i am getting a strange problem for last 3 days. In every 1-2 hour load average going over 200.**.** . normally load average going ~ 4.**.**

when load average going so high i am seeing mysql consuming more than 50% cpu

Pid Owner Priority Cpu % Mem % Command
10715 mysql 0 46 0.6 /usr/sbin/mysqld –basedir=/ –datadir=/var/lib/mysql –user=mysql –pid-file=/var/lib/mysql/server.sarkarhost.com.pid –skip-external-locking

Load is automatically coming down after 10 minutes.

But in every 1 hour I am facing downtime for this 10 minute. Any Suggestion please.Kindly tell What’s the meaning of this —

(/usr/sbin/mysqld –basedir=/ –datadir=/var/lib/mysql –user=mysql –pid-file=/var/lib/mysql/server.sarkarhost.com.pid –skip-external-locking ) ?
