Is what I get on my status2k installation, I’ve checked there KB and have found nothing. Can someone help me fix this? Thanks.

Well, I’ve had WorldStream for around a year now. Their hosting is good, their support is pretty slow, overall their service is pretty good until today. About a month or two back, I got a new server setup to host my website because one server wasn’t cutting it.

Now two months later, I am being charged for "exceeding my data traffic", even though the MYSQL traffic is INTERNAL between two servers on the same network. From the invoice I got today, I have to pay 300 euros, around $500 for internal bandwidth… The servers I have with WorldStream aren’t lanned together, but neither are mine that are hosted with TurnKey or Burstnet (and I haven’t had a problem with them). I’m just kind of disappointed right now, and annoyed having found perfect webhosting for my website and purchasing a $350 litespeed license a few days ago (unsure about transferability) only to have to get new hosting. I haven’t got a response back from them, and probably won’t until tomorrow, but I need to search just in case.

Hello,

I host a heavy site with more than 10 000 posts daily. It’s phpbb3 forum and it makes the whole server and all sites on it slow. I optimized lighttpd and mysql the best I could and I’m still having the same problem. It’s a bit faster after optimization though but it’s still pretty slow and sometimes down due to heavy posting.

RAM usage and CPU is not a problem. I got a powerful server so it shoudln’t be a problem.

Any help?

Think openssl (openssl-0.9.8e-12.el5_4.6) gives a problem.
I have this problem only on Virtuozzo vpsses, on dedi servers no problem.

As people search hard for this info, there are many repeat visits. That is typically great for advertising since most people need to see an ad or view ad space before they actually click on anything. I don’t get a lot of clicks (read below) but I get a few bucks a click at times it receives them.

The site was launched late last ear but because of server issues, it was inaccessible for awhile. I moved at the time and had limited access to the net, thus I didn’t get the problem fixed until probably early to mid February. These stats represent what the site had generated in only SIX weeks with 100% no promotion or link/traffic trades. So I expect the traffic will only rise in the next couple of months.

There are a lot of endusers for the domain but it has the highest max CPC I’ve ever seen. If I were to keep this thing, I’d have worked on the traffic and reaped the Adsense. But I’m trying to clean house by April 1st so this site has gotta go.

I do believe a $200 BIN is reasonable (and kind of a gyp on my end) but I’m open to offers.

OK, so I’ve been hearing a lot about non-relational database systems like Cassandra and HBase and their NoSQL uprise against rdbms like MySQL, and well, MySQL. I have several questions regarding this whole topic.

1. Will, at any time, these non-rdbms become a viable alternative to MySQL in terms of ease of use or exponential increase in performance? In other words, will people/places other than Facebook, Google, etc. be switching to a non-rdbms?
2. Do you foresee Cassandra and the such taking over the database world in the years to come?
3. Is Cassandra or any non-rdbms as easy to administer as a MySQL installation? If not so now, then when do foresee this?
4. Do you think the whole NoSQL movement is a bunch of crap and will blow over soon or do you really see it taking off?

started having this problem about 3 weeks ago:

several members on my site began reporting ’server not found’ messages when trying to access my site (which is hosted on a ded server). however they can access it perfectly everytime if they use a proxy.

most of the users seem to still be able to access the site fine

i’ve disabled the firewall and cleared all the IPs so it can’t be that.

any ideas what this could be?

i want to ask, i want to start my own VPS business but the thing is that i need to give each VPS a dedicated ip, my ISP allows to have an extra IP’S 2$/month, but the thing is how do i do it techically? why would apache graceful restart consumes that much? Am i missing something?

We are running a oscommerce website and are looking at having our accounting package, Quickbooks Enterprise (Australian edition).

We currently host our website on our own server box in Perth. Running Windows Server.
I am aware of a quickbooks -> oscommerce module out there.

The plan is to have it setup so that when adding new products via quickbooks or website they are automatically updated at both ends. Not only this, it would need to work with 2 stores quickbooks (data would need to the same excluding the stock qty of course). also the ability to show stock level, example:

PRODUCT ABD
SHOP A – less then5 in stock
SHOP B – more then 10 in stock

I think the main issue is to deal with multiple quickbook databases (1 at each physical store)

I’m currently looking for a VPS for around $15/month.
I was wondering if fivebean’s starter (url:fivebean.com/vpshosting/) would be better than/on part with the (gs)-lite?
c.f. these specs but everything is halved: (url:mediatemple.net/webhosting/gs/).

The (gs) lite I’m on, meets all my websites’ needs and to be honest, it’s actually more than what I need, but the geek in me wants aVPS.
For the moment I’m paying $10/month so if I could get a half descent VPS for the same (or less or equal to $15/month).

What’s really important though, is the DNS server (I suppose I’ll have to run one?). I’m actually using google.com/apps for my emails, so I have all the nameservers on namecheap pointing to mediatemple, which has the mx records etc pointing to google…

For the moment, I have one dynamic flash website, running on drupal, two to three static websites with a few php codes. And all low traffics…

Any advices are welcomed!

Are there any hosts which provide cheap and reliable file servers? I know asmallorange does but their file servers are a bit expensive considering the specifications being provided. We host number of videos made by our members so I was thinking a separate file server instead of just taxing the existing server.

We need around 10 gb of space and around 600 gb + bandwidth.

I have signed up with Quickweb two weeks ago for their Texas location (I found them here in WHT, i think the original thread still exist) after payment got my VPS details sent to me after few seconds, i tried other providers before but took them at least 2 days to give login details so i was in awe getting my VPS up and running in matter of seconds? I did not know that was even possible before…. they sure live up to their name "Quick" web lol.

first impression of the VPS is very responsive, i have other VPS but it is at times sluggish so i’m really impressed and enjoying my cheap VPS so far, I did contact support so they can enable tun/tap and other request to be enabled in the server a guy named Joe responded promptly & politely and said he already enabled it for me and asking me should i need anything else…. i’m not quite expecting response within 10 minutes as my other host would normally reply at least 4 hours later and I have no problem with that….but quickweb is something else i’m paying them less than the other host but they deliver more!

After two weeks server is performing as delivered, stable no downtime yet unless i reboot, contacted them again to purchase offsite back-up slot for $5 as it is quite handy i can backup and restore my VPS when needed from their control panel which I found useful and my order was delivered and setup quite fast too – they have VPSManager control panel for me to monitor and manage my VPS which i think is just a rebranded solusvm it’s sleek and very neat and most of all have "real" SSL encryption protection, i noticed other cheap host did not even bother to do this and i found it really a no no. I have no complains so far and everything is way above my expectations especially for the VPS at this price range it must be a steal! I will definitely move my other VPS with them as well for good after 2 more weeks and if everything still ok.

Conclusion so far – Will i recommend them?
Definitely! At this point I highly recommend Quickweb, if you are looking for a VPS that will perform i think they should be at always on the top of your list.

I know it is still too early but i’m happy to update my experience about them from time to time, i just could not believe what i’m getting now for almost nothing and hey it is working well… i’m thinking i can just stop zipping at least 2 cups of coffee a month i can easily maintain my subscription

6. What Control Panel do you use?

Currently in the process of migrating a managed dedicated server away from 1 and 1, and here’s why.

We’ve been with them for some time now, without too much in the way of complaints. I know they have a reputation for spotty support, to say the least, but I’m not a high-maintenance customer. I like to set it and forget it, so if it’s working properly, that’s all I ask – I don’t need a lot of hand holding. So, for a long time, that’s what I got. I didn’t ask for support, which I’m sure made them happy, and I generally didn’t *need* support, which made me happy.

Anyway, they rolled out a new server line a couple of months ago, and at the time I noticed that they were charging new customers half (literally!) of what we were paying for the exact same configuration. So, I call their billing/sales department and ask about migrating to a new package. After all, for the same price they’re charging me for the old server, I can get a shiny, new, much beefier server. OK, they tell me – you’ll have to add the new server on to your account, migrate your site yourself, and then cancel the old one, but if you want to do that, fine. So, they won’t help me, but they won’t stop me either. So much for "management", but whatever.

Well, so be it. I can handle that if I have to. But then, I started looking through the February server logs, at the end of the month. And it seems something funny is going on with all my Apache/FTP/mail logs – the last octet of every IP address has been removed and replaced with "x", so every IP address is of the form:

192.168.1.x
192.168.2.x

And so forth. So I call again, thinking this must simply be some sort of configuration issue. No, the support guy tells me, we’re doing this on purpose. It seems that the privacy laws of the German government require that this information must be removed from their server logs and made unavailable to me. Excuse me, I said, but I’m in Virginia, and the server is in your datacenter in Kansas – why do I give a crap about what the German government wants?

The guy was sympathetic, but I guess it all boiled down to the fact that these were their marching orders, handed down from the home office back in Deutscheland, and he can’t change it. So, I asked, is there anything I can do? Sure, he says. This only applies to shared hosting packages, VPS packages, and managed servers – if you want to switch to an unmanaged server, then obviously we can’t control your logs.

Not acceptable. This is a hobby site – I’m happy to pay a few extra bucks to have someone else keep up with the back end, so I don’t have to worry about keeping the thing patched and up to date, and I can concentrate on the content itself. If the only way to get my logs back in order is to cut them out of the loop with an unmanaged solution, then I might as well take my business elsewhere, to someone who can walk *and* chew gum – i.e., handle server management *and* not screw around with my log files. And there’s where I’m at now – in the process of moving to another provider.

So, there you go – one more reason to avoid 1 and 1, in case you needed one more. My ancestors left Germany 150 years ago so they wouldn’t have to deal with the German government, and I don’t see why I should be compelled to worry about what they think now. :rolleyes:

Does anyone have any Sr contacts at Spamhaus? I’m running into an issue with one of their techs and need an issue escalated internally. Since their support is pooled to the same tech that opened up a ticket, I’m not getting anywhere on the issue.

I have purchased a SSL from Geocerts, a Geotrust SSL reseller. They are 100% good certificates and show up as Geotrust issued certificates. The domain on the cert is a <a href="http://www.domain.com” target=”_blank”>www.domain.com – but it only works on some browsers. It works on the newest Firefox and Safari and newest IE (IE8+) but not the Google Chrome browser, anything like Firefox 3.4 or below, etc..although it is an EV SSL and it should work fine (trusted issuer). It says that "some of the content on the page is insecure."

Perhaps it is a way I installed it (I requested a cert request file/generated one from cPanel and then pasted that into the Geocerts panel and got a Certificate which I pasted into the cPanel SSL install wizard and it automatically got the domain/IP/request file).

I am renting a Windows 2008 server to run an exe that does lots of important things for me. I am using RDP to log into the server, download the necessary files, and run the exe.

Currently everything is working. However since the exe I’m using does not have multithreading I need to have a new user each time I want to run it. So currently, I have this program being run by the server two times simultaneously (as I have 2 RDP users logged in and running the file). I would like to maybe 10-20+ of this program simultaneously. The server I have is strong enough to do this, however the issue is that Microsoft will only let me log into 2 accounts on my server simultaneously. After that it will not let me log in with another account.

I’ve been told by my server provider, that I would need to contact Microsoft, and they can’t increase it for me.

Exactly what am I looking to increase, and what type of prices should I expect?
